Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has refused to dwell on his side’s FA Cup elimination, insisting the club’s primary objective remains reclaiming the Premier League title.
The Red Devils crashed out of the competition after losing 4-3 on penalties to Fulham following a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.
Calvin Bassey opened the scoring for the visitors before Bruno Fernandes restored parity, while Bernd Leno’s heroics in the shootout sealed Fulham’s progression. Softfootball understands Amorim remains focused on the club’s long-term rebuilding project despite the setback.
Amorim after the defeat said:
The goal is to win the Premier League. We are losing games and trophies this season, but that doesn’t change our ambition.
The Portuguese coach admitted the losses have been painful but stressed they will not distract the team from its long-term vision. He added:
We have a goal, and we will continue moving forward no matter what.
With their FA Cup campaign now over, Manchester United will turn their attention to the UEFA Europa League, where they face Spanish side Real Sociedad in the Round of 16.
The competition now represents the club’s final opportunity to lift silverware this season while also boosting hopes of securing European football next term.
