Former Arsenal star Paul Merson has urged the Gunners to sign Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The 31-year-old has been in prolific form in Germany, scoring 72 goals in 73 games, but Arsenal’s lack of a proven goalscorer remains a concern in their title race. Softfootball reports that Merson believes Kane is the ideal solution.

Merson suggested that Kane might be persuaded to join Arsenal over a return to Tottenham because he would have a better chance of breaking Alan Shearer’s Premier League scoring record at the Emirates. He cited Sol Campbell’s controversial move as a precedent for players prioritizing success and legacy over club loyalty.

He explained his view by stating:

If he thinks he can come back and beat Shearer’s record, I don’t see the point in coming back to Tottenham. There’s no point coming back to Tottenham to make him have a chance of beating that. I don’t think he’ll have as much chance of beating that at Tottenham as he would at Arsenal.

The former forward highlighted that Kai Havertz’s nine league goals are insufficient for a team challenging for the title. His comments reflect a growing desire among fans for a clinical finisher to complement Arsenal’s creative midfield and secure their first Premier League crown in decades.
