Manchester United legend Roy Keane has expressed skepticism about Marcus Rashford’s ability to regain his form during his loan spell at Aston Villa.
The forward sealed a temporary move after falling out of favor with manager Ruben Amorim, having not played for the club since mid-December. Softfootball reports that Keane questions whether a domestic switch is enough to reignite his passion.
Keane argued that once a player loses their hunger, it is incredibly difficult to recover that drive. He noted that Rashford’s decision to stay in the Premier League rather than seeking a new challenge abroad was surprising, especially given the intense speculation surrounding his future during the winter transfer window.
He explained his view by stating:
If he’s lost the hunger at Man United – how will he get it at Aston Villa? Once you lose the hunger it’s hard to get it back. It’s sad but it’s been on the cards the last year or two, especially since the new manager’s come in.
This highlights the psychological hurdles facing the striker.
The former captain emphasized that while Villa are performing well, they cannot be compared to the scale and pressure of Manchester United. He believes that a more drastic change in environment might have been necessary for Rashford to truly reset his career and find the motivation that has eluded him recently.
