Bournemouth have completed an agreement with Benfica for the signing of centre-back António Silva.

The deal has now been signed between the two clubs, with Bournemouth set to pay a €25 million fixed fee plus €5 million in add-ons for the Portugal international.

Benfica have authorised Silva to travel, with the defender now expected to undergo his medical before officially completing the move.

The arrival of António Silva provides Bournemouth with a major defensive reinforcement ahead of the new season as the Cherries continue strengthening Andoni Iraola’s squad.

The signing comes after Softfootball reported that Bournemouth suffered a significant injury setback with highly rated forward Eli Junior Kroupi.

The 19-year-old French attacker underwent successful surgery on a fractured fifth metatarsal and is expected to be sidelined for three to four months as he begins his rehabilitation programme.

Despite that blow, Bournemouth have responded positively in the transfer market by securing one of Europe’s most promising young central defenders.
