Victor Boniface has expressed his delight after returning from injury with a goal in Bayer Leverkusen’s 3-1 Bundesliga victory over Hoffenheim on Sunday.

The Super Eagles striker marked his comeback in style by opening the scoring for the reigning German champions in the 15th minute.

Speaking after the game, Softfootball reports that the goal was Boniface’s first appearance for Leverkusen since he picked up an injury while on international duty with Nigeria last November.

The 24-year-old forward admitted that he was delighted to be back on the pitch after spending almost two months on the sidelines. He said:

I feel happy, I feel great. It has been a long time since I’ve been out, I think almost two months, so to be back and playing games is really good for me.

He also explained that scoring an early goal against a strong Hoffenheim side gave the team an important confidence boost saying:

It feels good to score. As a team, scoring an early goal against a top team like this really helps build confidence, and you can see that after the goal, the team gained more confidence to score more.

Boniface has now scored seven goals in 11 Bundesliga appearances for Xabi Alonso’s side this season.
