Former Chelsea and Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Čech, speaking on the Obione Podcast, has highlighted what he sees as a major difference between players of his era and players today. He suggested that modern footballers often avoid playing when dealing with minor discomfort.
Here is his comments:
“Before my head injury, I played for 16 months with a broken shoulder. Every time I dived to claim a cross, I had tears in my eyes. The injection room used to be full before every match. Now, some players don’t want to play because of a little scratch.”
Softfootball, while analysing reactions from football fans, observed a wide range of opinions. Some supporters argued that current players are “Gen Zs” who don’t want to get tired or hurt, while others felt Čech’s comparison was unfair given today’s stricter medical standards and emphasis on long‑term player welfare.
