AC Milan have officially dismissed head coach Paulo Fonseca after just six months in charge following the club’s disappointing first half of the season.
The Rossoneri confirmed the Portuguese manager’s departure in an official statement, thanking him for his professionalism and wishing him success in the future. Softfootball understands Sunday’s 1-1 home draw against Roma proved to be Fonseca’s final match in charge.
The result left Milan eighth in the Serie A standings, 14 points behind joint leaders Atalanta and Napoli, increasing pressure on the former Lille boss.
Despite inconsistent domestic form, Milan remain in contention in the UEFA Champions League after winning four of their opening six league-phase matches.
Fonseca was appointed in June to replace Stefano Pioli, who guided the club to the Serie A title in 2022 and a second-place finish last season.
Italian media reports indicate former FC Porto manager Sérgio Conceição is expected to succeed Fonseca, with an announcement anticipated shortly.
The managerial change represents Milan’s latest attempt to revive their campaign and close the gap on the Serie A title contenders.
