Former Nigeria international Obafemi Martins has made a bold claim about his playing days, insisting he was faster than both Arjen Robben and Ronaldo de Lima during their careers.
Martins built a reputation for his blistering pace throughout his time at Inter Milan and beyond, and clearly hasn’t lost any confidence in backing himself against two of football’s most electric attackers of his era.
Softfootball gathers that the former striker made the comments in a candid interview with ESPN. He said:
I’m faster than Robben, but he’s probably better with the ball. Did you forget about me? Wow. I’m faster than Ronaldo, even he knows that. There’s no player on this list faster than me. Go back to Inter Milan and ask about me.
Martins began his career with Italian lower-league side Reggiana before joining Inter Milan in 2001, where he spent five years, later moving to the Premier League with Newcastle United, where he registered 35 goals and 10 assists in 104 appearances.
