Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has promised the club will take firm action against Victor Boniface following footage that emerged of the striker driving recklessly on a German highway, sparking criticism both online and within football circles.

Softfootball understands that images circulating on social media appeared to show Boniface using his mobile phone while driving at 141 km/h on a highway with a 120 km/h speed limit, alongside Nigerian rapper Zoro Swagbag.

Speaking to BeIN Sports, Alonso made clear the behavior wouldn’t be tolerated:

I don’t like it, it’s obviously not good, and of course, it’s not allowed to happen. I

haven’t seen Boni, but he knows it’s not allowed.

We have to tell him he’s not allowed to do something like this.

Boniface is currently recovering from an injury picked up while on international duty last week, meaning any disciplinary conversation will likely take place away from the pitch for now.

The incident adds an unwelcome distraction for a player already working his way back to full fitness ahead of Leverkusen’s upcoming fixtures.
