Lee Carsley used his final game in interim charge of England to make a bold claim about the squad he’s handing over to Thomas Tuchel.

Speaking to the Daily Mail after a 5-0 demolition of Ireland in the Nations League, Carsley argued the Three Lions already have everything needed to go all the way in North America.

Softfootball gathered that Carsley pointed to squad depth and timing as the real keys to success, saying:

We are in a good position to do that. We have the talent to do it. I have been lucky now to be at the last couple of World Cups and the timing of the players being in form, physically and mentally, at the right time, picking the right squad. We have got all of the tools. It needs work. It’s one thing you don’t get with the international camps is time.”

Carsley added that other international coaches have flagged England’s depth as almost an unfair advantage, a compliment he clearly hopes Tuchel can convert into silverware next summer.
