Nigeria’s U17 national team, the Golden Eaglets, suffered their second straight defeat at the Four‑Nation Invitational Tournament in China, losing 4–2 to Australia at the Yinchuan Sports Centre Helanshan Stadium.

Softfootball gathered that the result adds to a difficult start for the young Nigerian side, who have now conceded seven goals and scored four across their opening two matches of the competition. The team will now look to finish on a positive note when they face hosts China in their final game on Saturday.

The tournament is an important part of Nigeria’s build‑up to the WAFU B U‑17 Championship scheduled for September, a crucial regional competition that will determine qualification for the 2027 CAF U‑17 Africa Cup of Nations.

Under new head coach Uwejamomere Eboboritse, the Golden Eaglets are using the tournament to build chemistry, assess players, and fine‑tune tactical ideas ahead of the decisive qualifiers. Despite the early setbacks, the coaching crew remains focused on development and long‑term readiness.
