Atlético Madrid are on the verge of completing another major midfield signing after agreeing a deal to bring Sporting CP captain Morten Hjulmand to the Spanish capital.

Softfootball understands the Danish international is travelling to Madrid today as both clubs exchange the final paperwork to complete the transfer. The deal is worth €40 million plus performance-related add-ons, with Hjulmand expected to sign a contract until June 2031.

The 27-year-old leaves Sporting after establishing himself as one of Portugal’s standout midfielders, combining defensive discipline, leadership and composure in possession. His arrival is seen as another significant addition to Diego Simeone’s squad ahead of the new season.

Atlético are not stopping there. The La Liga giants are also in the final stages of securing the signing of Kang-in Lee from Paris Saint-Germain, with only the final details of the agreement still to be resolved before the transfer is officially completed.

Landing both Hjulmand and Kang-in Lee would represent a major boost for Atlético’s midfield, adding defensive solidity alongside creativity and technical quality as the club prepares to challenge on multiple fronts during the 2026-27 campaign.

The double swoop underlines Atlético Madrid’s ambition in the summer transfer window as they continue reshaping their squad with high-quality reinforcements.
