Nigerian forward Oladapo Afolayan was on target as St. Pauli recorded a valuable 2-0 away victory over Hoffenheim in Saturday’s Bundesliga clash, Softfootball reports.

Afolayan continued his fine start to life in the German top flight by scoring his second league goal of the season. The 27-year-old has now registered two goals in nine Bundesliga appearances for the newly promoted side.

He opened the scoring in the 20th minute, giving St. Pauli a deserved lead before being substituted with 10 minutes remaining.

Super Eagles defender Kevin Akpoguma was an unused substitute for Hoffenheim and did not feature in the encounter.

The victory moved St. Pauli up to 15th place in the Bundesliga standings with eight points after nine matches, boosting their hopes of avoiding relegation in their first season back in the top flight.

Hoffenheim, meanwhile, remain on the same points tally but sit one place below in 16th position.

Afolayan was instrumental in St. Pauli’s promotion campaign last season, contributing nine goals and three assists in 31 appearances as the club secured a return to the Bundesliga.
