Bayelsa United Technical Adviser Ladan Bosso has challenged his players to improve their finishing despite securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Heartland in Sunday’s NPFL Matchday 8 clash.

Softfootball gathered that Bosso remains concerned about his side’s wastefulness in front of goal, insisting the Prosperity Boys should have won by a wider margin after creating several clear-cut opportunities.

Speaking after the game at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa, the experienced tactician praised his players’ commitment but admitted their inability to convert chances remains a major concern.

Bosso revealed that the same fighting spirit displayed against Heartland was evident in their previous outing against Plateau United, stressing that the team has shown encouraging signs despite inconsistent results.

He explained that the club must continue working with the current squad until the mid-season transfer window opens, adding that improving the performance of existing players remains the immediate priority.

The former Flying Eagles coach also identified inconsistency and pressure from supporters as factors affecting his players’ performances, urging them to express themselves freely on the pitch instead of allowing expectations to weigh them down.

Bosso encouraged his squad to trust their abilities, remain confident and focus on executing their game plan while leaving the outcome to God.

Substitute Rabiu Abdullahi scored the only goal of the contest shortly after the restart, helping Bayelsa United claim all three points despite late pressure from the visitors.

The victory lifted Bayelsa United to 15th place on the NPFL table with nine points, while Heartland slipped to 17th with six points.

Bayelsa United will now travel to face Lobi Stars in their next league fixture, while Heartland welcome table-toppers Remo Stars in what promises to be another difficult test.
