Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been ruled out of Ghana’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sudan due to injury.

The Ghana Football Association confirmed that Partey, Joseph Painstil, Kingsley Schindler, and Ibrahim Osman will all miss the double-header after picking up different injury concerns.

The four players were initially named in Otto Addo’s 25-man squad, but they have now been withdrawn from the team ahead of the important fixtures.

According to the GFA, Partey is unable to join the Black Stars due to medical issues and has been scheduled by his club for further tests in the coming days. Painstil also complained of pain in his hamstring after his club’s last game and is expected to undergo an MRI scan.

Ibrahim Osman was substituted in the 65th minute of his club’s last match after feeling pain in his calf, while Schindler is also unavailable due to a medical emergency.

Ghana are scheduled to face Sudan on Thursday, October 10, and Tuesday, October 15, 2024, as they continue their push for qualification.

The latest setback comes amid a busy period for the Black Stars, who have continued to attract attention on the international stage. At the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Ghana snatched a dramatic 1-0 victory over Panama, with Caleb Yirenkyi scoring a stoppage-time winner to hand the Black Stars all three points.

Sudan have also remained in the spotlight after their AFCON campaign. Burkina Faso sealed second spot in Group E with a 2-0 win over Sudan at AFCON 2025, although Sudan still managed to progress as one of the best third-placed teams.

For Ghana, Partey’s absence is a major blow, but Otto Addo will hope his squad can respond strongly and secure positive results against Sudan.
