Softfootball can confirm Chelsea have reportedly identified Juventus defender Andrea Cambiaso as their preferred replacement for Marc Cucurella following the Spaniard’s transfer to Real Madrid.
Cucurella, who had been linked with Barcelona and Atlético Madrid in recent months, ultimately completed a £52 million move to the Spanish giants. Real Madrid officially confirmed the signing on June 15, bringing an end to the defender’s successful spell at Stamford Bridge.

With Cucurella gone, Chelsea are now assessing their options at left-back ahead of the 2026/27 season under incoming head coach Xabi Alonso.
Current options include promising youngsters Jorrel Hato and Caleb Wiley, but reports suggest Chelsea want additional experience and quality in the position. Juventus star Andrea Cambiaso has emerged as a leading candidate, with the Italian international believed to be on Alonso’s shortlist of transfer targets.
Juventus are reportedly demanding around €40 million for the versatile defender, who is capable of operating as both a full-back and wing-back.

The move signals Chelsea’s determination to strengthen key areas of the squad as preparations continue for a new era under Alonso following Cucurella’s high-profile departure to the Santiago Bernabéu.
