Softfootball gathered that Tottenham Hotspur have emerged as the latest club interested in signing Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali, as new manager Roberto De Zerbi looks to reshape the squad ahead of the 2026-27 season.
De Zerbi has identified the Italian international as a priority target, believing his quality, experience, and leadership can transform Tottenham’s midfield.
The move comes after reports earlier in the year suggested Tonali would assess his future options at the end of the recently concluded campaign, with Manchester United also monitoring the situation.
De Zerbi, who was appointed in March 2026 on a five-year contract, is determined to oversee a major turnaround after Spurs narrowly avoided relegation by finishing 17th in the Premier League. The former Brighton boss is reportedly eager to build a squad capable of competing with the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal in the coming years.
However, securing Tonali’s signature will not be straightforward. Newcastle are believed to value the midfielder between £85 million and £100 million, reflecting his importance to the club and his proven Premier League pedigree since returning from suspension.

Despite Tottenham’s absence from European competition next season, the North London club remain ambitious in the transfer market.
Landing Tonali would represent a major statement of intent as De Zerbi begins a crucial rebuilding project at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
