Reports reaching Softfootball indicate Super Eagles manager Eric Chelle may not lead Nigeria at AFCON 2027, as contract talks with the NFF remain unresolved.

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has admitted he may not be in charge of the team by the time AFCON 2027 kicks off, with his current contract set to expire in January 2027.
Negotiations between his agent and the NFF over a contract extension are still unresolved, with both parties yet to reach an agreement on the terms.
This development comes as, on Saturday, 30th May 2026, the Super Eagles of Nigeria will face Jamaica in the final of the 2026 Unity Cup.
Nigeria won the 2025 Unity Cup after defeating Jamaica 5–4 on penalties, following an intense 2–2 draw in regulation time at the Brentford Community Stadium in London.

Now in 2026, the two countries will clash again. The Super Eagles qualified for the Unity Cup final after defeating Zimbabwe 2–0, courtesy of the brace by Femi Azeez.
