Antonio Conte has expressed surprise at growing reports linking him with the Italy national team job, insisting there is no agreement of any kind with the federation. Softfootball gathered that Conte addressed the rumours while speaking to the media, making it clear that discussions have not taken place.
Conte highlighted the uncertainty within the federation itself and questioned whether Italy are prepared, financially and structurally, to appoint a top‑level manager.
He said:
“There’s not even the Federation president yet… but let me say. Are Italy ready to appoint a top coach?”

Conte also reacted to speculation involving Pep Guardiola, suggesting the Manchester City manager would be an ideal candidate but doubting whether the federation could afford him.
“I read about Pep Guardiola. Should I suggest a name, I’d say Pep. But… do they have the funds to make it happen? It’s too early to say.”
He concluded firmly:
“I have zero agreements so far.”

Meanwhile, Napoli ’ 1–0 win over Udinese marked Conte’s final game in charge of the club. There will be no exit fee and he will leave without severance pay, bringing his latest spell in Turin to a quiet close.
