Manchester City will look to keep their fading Premier League title hopes alive when they welcome European-chasing Brentford to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday evening.
Pep Guardiola’s side remain five points behind league leaders Arsenal, although City still hold a game in hand with only a few matches remaining. However, the pressure has intensified following their dramatic 3-3 draw against Everton, leaving little margin for error in the title race.

Ahead of the fixture, Manchester City shared a video montage on their official X account featuring their last five home goals against Brentford, reminding supporters of their strong recent record in this fixture.

City have already defeated Brentford twice this season, including a 1-0 Premier League victory and a 2-0 EFL Cup triumph. Despite that dominance, meetings between the two sides are often competitive, and Brentford supporters still fondly remember their famous 2-1 win at the Etihad in 2022 inspired by Ivan Toney.
Having lost 2-1 at Old Trafford in their most recent trip to Manchester just over a week ago, the Bees arrive boosted by a convincing 3-0 victory over West Ham United, a result that ended a six-match winless streak and revived hopes of qualifying for European competition.

Brentford currently sit seventh in the table and know another positive result could significantly strengthen their continental ambitions.
The visitors also stirred excitement online after sharing Christian Nørgaard’s memorable equalizer against City from a previous encounter. Arsenal supporters quickly joined the conversation, hoping Brentford could once again frustrate Guardiola’s side and influence the title race.
With so much riding on the result for both clubs, an intense and high-quality contest is expected at the Etihad.
Team News
Manchester City remain without Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias through injury, while Rodri faces a late fitness test after missing the last three matches. Mateo Kovacic could return to the starting lineup after recovering from injury.
Guardiola is not expected to make too many changes, but one potential alteration could see Rayan Ait-Nouri return at left-back and Nico O’Reilly move into midfield at the expense of Nico Gonzalez.
Erling Haaland who has scored four goals in his previous six games against Brentford is expected to lead the attack alongside Antoine Semenyo, Rayan Cherki, and Jeremy Doku, who has contributed six goals in his last five appearances across all competitions.
For Brentford, Antoni Milambo and Fabio Carvalho remain sidelined with knee injuries. Jordon Henderson and Rico Henry will be assessed before kickoff, while Igor Thiago looks to continue his impressive campaign after scoring his 22nd Premier League goal last weekend. The Brazilian striker will be looking to end a three-game goal drought away from home this weekend.

Softfootball predicts City to secure a hard-fought 3-1 victory.

However, Brentford are capable of causing problems on the counterattack, but Manchester City’s urgency in the title race and superior attacking depth should prove decisive.
