Following the death of Henry Nwosu, Softfootball revisited a documentary titled Road to Morocco, where the late Nigerian football legend spoke about his journey to becoming the youngest AFCON winner during the 1980 African Cup of Nations.

The video was shared on the official Super Eagles X handle and features Nwosu reflecting on the determination and hard work that helped him secure a place in Nigeria’s historic squad.
Here is Henry Nwosu’s statement in the documentary;
I prayed and worked hard, for me to be part of the main team, that was to represent nigeria at the afcon competition, because we had very serious screening before the competiton.
“tHAnk god i was one of the 22 players selected, and when we got there i prayed and played too because as i was praying i was working harder in making sure i became one of the not practically as a 22 player, no as one of the first 11 players of the team, which of cause happened, i started the competition with them, with the team, that was my first year in the green eagles then.
then it was known as green eagles, with the likes of christain chukwu, odegbami and co, you kno, i played with them, that was it and thank god i was able to make it with them being the yongers player amongst them, i did not mind the age differnec, did mind the experience,but i worked hard to making sure, that i picked my number 10 jersey and featured

Henry Nwosu passed away at the age of 62 on March 14, 2026, at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) following a battle with illness.

His death comes five days after the passing of former Super Eagles coach Adegboye Onigbinde, who died at the age of 88 on 9 March 2026.
