Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso praised his side’s “complete performance” after their 4-1 win against Levante on LaLiga matchday six but was quick to stress that focus will now shift to the Madrid derby, a game Softfootball predicts in the games preview to be a very intense and close encounter.
Speaking at a press conference, as revealed by Real Madrid’s official website, the manager highlighted the progress his squad is making since his arrival.
Alonso said:
We’ve just finished the game and I was fully focused on today’s match and where we’re headed. We’ll start thinking about the derby from tomorrow. It was a really complete team performance, Vini was decisive and put on a really good display.
We’re very much in a growing phase, we’ve been together 51 days, and there’s still a long way to go. We’re building a solid base to be competitive in LaLiga, the Champions League and the Copa. Everyone feels connected and part of the team. Results matter, yes, but it’s also about how we’re doing things. This is just the beginning.

Alonso also spoke about squad management and flexibility. He also noted Jude Bellingham’s gradual return. Alonso also highlighted how the quality and adaptability of his squad make his work easier. Rotations against Levante were necessary to protect players returning from injury, but he insisted the balance of the team remained intact.
Real Madrid posted an intense training video uploaded on the team’s official X account.

He said:
Having quality players makes everything easier. They’re flexible, not tied to one specific way, and they can adapt to different positions. Today we needed to rest Mili and Carva after their injuries — we didn’t want three straight 90 minutes. Those who came in did great.
Jude got more minutes under his belt, that’s important. You saw it with him breaking lines, starting deep and ending up almost in a number ten role. He has so many attributes, and now he’s fit, he’ll work his way back in.
With the Madrid Derby against Atletico Madrid upcoming next, Xabi Alonso will be hopeful that his team are mentally ready for the gruesome clash ahead.
