Manchester City face a huge test against Real Madrid in the Champions League, as Álvaro Arbeloa delivered a detailed and confident message ahead of Tuesday’s clash at the Etihad.

Manchester City face tough Real Madrid test in Champions League as, fresh off a commanding 4–1 win over Elche to keep pressure on Barcelona, Arbeloa made it clear his side is fully focused on the task ahead. As reported by Softfooball via the vikingos YouTube channel, the Madrid boss stressed the importance of mentality, discipline, and collective effort.

Speaking on the challenge ahead, Arbeloa said:

“We are very aware of the difficulty of tomorrow’s match and the opponent we face. If we want to win, we can’t have anything else on our minds but to perform at a very high level, with solidarity, effort and sacrifice, and be able to cause them a lot of problems.”

He reinforced that the approach will mirror the first leg—but with even greater intensity:

“We have no other objective than to go out and win with the same humility and commitment… even more so, because it won’t be easy. Humility and ambition are what we need.”

On Federico Valverde’s importance, Arbeloa left no doubts about his role, even with Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappé returning:

“Fede can play anywhere. Wherever he plays, he plays really well. I think he is playing at his best. He can score goals, he can move on the pitch… and when Bellingham and Mbappé return, we need this version of Fede.”

On squad availability, he confirmed Mbappé is ready while Bellingham remains close but unavailable:

“Bellingham wanted to come with his teammates, but he won’t be here tomorrow… Mbappé is already available. You’ll see tomorrow.”

Arbeloa also dismissed any idea that the team functions better without Mbappé:

“It’s difficult to imagine a team being competitive without the best player in the world. But that speaks volumes about how well the team is doing.”

On team culture, he rejected the label of “superstars,” highlighting a merit-based system:

“I haven’t felt like there are any established stars… players like Valverde, Vinícius and Tchouaméni have earned their minutes on the pitch.”

Facing Pep Guardiola’s side, Arbeloa acknowledged City’s chemistry and experience:

“They’re a team that knows each other very well; they play with their eyes closed because they’ve been together for so many years.”

He also praised Arda Güler following his recent performance:

“The goal against Elche was spectacular… we have to defend Haaland, and the more people the better. But I think Arda did a good job.”

Finally, Arbeloa made it clear his focus is not on personal pressure but on delivering for the fans:

“That’s the last thing on my mind… What worries me is that tomorrow’s match continues to excite the Real Madrid fans. I’ll be here as long as I need to be and very happy until the very last day.”
