Video: Ramsdale arrives Newcastle sets to undergo medicals

Aaron Ramsdale has arrived in Newcastle from Southampton to undergo his medical ahead of his season-long loan deal, Softfootball reports.

Ramsdale, 27, is reportedly eager to leave the Championship club after their relegation, and Newcastle’s option was keen to the former Arsenal goalkeeper, who will now stand as no. 2, to Nick Pope.

Softfootball had reported that the deal was a quick succession after Newcastle failed to bring James Trafford to the St. James Park due to Manchester City hijacking.

According to Keith Downie, Northeast Sky Sports News reporter, shared on his X handle a video of Ramsdale arriving in Newcastle from a private jet for his medicals, which are stated to run either today or Thursday.

Keith wrote:

“Aaron Ramsdale has arrived in Newcastle to undergo his medical. The 27-year-old keeper flew in by private jet this afternoon.

Ramsdale will sign a season-long loan deal (loan fee £4m) with option to make permanent next summer.”

Here is the video of Ramsdale’s arrival to Newcastle this afternoon:

Southampton, who paid Arsenal £18 million for Ramsdale just last summer, are pushing for a permanent sale. The deal comes shortly after Newcastle reached an agreement to sign James Trafford from Burnley, only for Manchester City to exercise a matching rights clause to hijack that transfer. Now, attention has shifted to Ramsdale, who could reunite with his former Bournemouth boss, Eddie Howe, at St. James’ Park.

Despite a tough season in 2024/25, conceding 66 goals and keeping just three clean sheets, Ramsdale’s experience is valuable. He has made 183 Premier League appearances, and although he’s faced three relegations with Bournemouth, Sheffield United, and Southampton, his shot-stopping and distribution are still seen as assets.

Newcastle sees Ramsdale as a younger alternative to Martin Dubravka, who turns 37 in January. The Slovakian performed well last season, but the club is looking to refresh the position.

This move would keep Ramsdale in the Premier League and potentially reignite his England ambitions. With Champions League football ahead, Newcastle are quietly reshaping their squad, especially with forward Alexander Isak attracting interest from Liverpool.

Ramsdale’s arrival would mark another smart addition as the Magpies look to build depth and challenge on multiple fronts this season.
