Two Chelsea players could be at risk of losing their starting roles following recent team selections by manager Liam Rosenior.

Softfootball understands that the lineup used in Chelsea’s 4–1 victory over Aston Villa, shortly after their 2–1 defeat to Arsenal, may indicate a shift in Rosenior’s preferred starting eleven.
Robert Sánchez
Goalkeeper Robert Sánchez could be one of the players facing uncertainty. In the Aston Villa match, Filip Jørgensen was preferred in goal, a decision many see as a strong signal regarding the manager’s current confidence levels.

Softfootball believes the situation could become even more competitive if Mike Penders returns from his loan spell at RC Strasbourg Alsace. The young goalkeeper, who is contracted to Chelsea, has reportedly impressed and could challenge both Jørgensen and Sánchez for the number one position.
Sánchez’s performance against Arsenal also raised concerns. The goalkeeper has at times looked uncomfortable playing out from the back and has struggled to command his penalty area consistently. Observers noted that the second goal conceded in that match highlighted some of these issues.

Reports also suggest Rosenior developed strong confidence in Mike Penders’ abilities during his time working with him at Strasbourg. The Belgian goalkeeper is regarded as comfortable with the ball at his feet, capable of organizing the defense, and confident in communicating instructions to his backline—qualities that could suit Rosenior’s tactical approach.
Pedro Neto
Another player whose starting place could be under threat is Pedro Neto. While his recent red card against Arsenal has added pressure, competition for attacking positions has also intensified.

Alejandro Garnacho impressed during the Aston Villa match, and if he maintains that form, Neto may find it difficult to immediately reclaim a starting role.

Additionally, the potential return of Estêvão Willian could further complicate the competition for attacking positions.
With Rosenior continuing to shape his preferred lineup, the coming weeks could be decisive for both Sánchez and Neto as Chelsea push forward in the 2025/26 season.
