Tottenham Hotspur have officially confirmed the signing of Conor Gallagher from Atlético Madrid, subject to international clearance, completing a move that has gathered pace in recent days. The deal, finalised on January 14, 2026, follows weeks of quiet negotiations and comes after Gallagher successfully completed his medical, as reported by SoftFootball.

Spurs beat off late interest from Aston Villa and Manchester United to secure the England international’s signature. Gallagher has signed a long-term contract running until the summer of 2031 and will wear the number 22 shirt at the club.
The transfer, which was announced by the club’s official X account, is valued at £34.7 million, around €40 million, marking a notable midfield investment and one that aligns with Tottenham’s intent to refresh the squad. SoftFootball had earlier revealed how Spurs hijacked the deal at an advanced stage.
The 25-year-old midfielder did not hide his enthusiasm after the move was made official. Gallagher explained that the decision felt natural and came together quickly once Tottenham showed serious interest.

Speaking on joining the club, he said:
I’m so happy and excited to be here, taking the next step in my career at an amazing club. I wanted to be a Spurs player and thankfully the Club felt the same.
He also stressed his readiness to get started, adding:
It was very easy, it happened very quickly and I’m ready to get on the pitch.
Gallagher also touched on the connection he hopes to build with supporters, clearly aware of Tottenham’s demanding fanbase.
He added:
I know how great the fans are, I’m really happy to be a part of it here and want to create special moments and memories together.

Head coach Thomas Frank believes Gallagher’s profile fits perfectly into what Spurs need right now, especially with injuries and absences stretching the midfield. Frank highlighted the midfielder’s experience and leadership qualities before praising his footballing attributes.
He said:
Conor is a top midfielder, who we have worked tirelessly to add to our squad.
Emphasising his character and energy, Frank added:
He has captained teams so will bring leadership, maturity, character and personality to our dressing room.

Gallagher’s arrival also addresses a clear tactical gap following Rodrigo Bentancur’s hamstring surgery, Pape Sarr’s AFCON absence, and Lucas Bergvall’s injury. After an 18-month spell at Atlético Madrid where minutes became limited, this move offers Gallagher a fresh platform to rediscover rhythm, push for England selection, and play a central role in Tottenham’s season.
