Thomas Partey’s R*pe Charges: What It Means for the Ghanaian’s Career

Former Arsenal midfielder and Ghana international Thomas Partey has been officially charged with the r*pe of two women, raising serious questions about the future of his football career.

Softfootball gathered that the Metropolitan Police confirmed Partey is facing five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, linked to alleged incidents that occurred between 2021 and 2022.

Interestingly, the charges came just four days after Thomas Partey’s departure from Arsenal, sparking concerns about whether the club had prior knowledge of the looming charges.

According to the authorities, the s**ual assault charge involves one woman, while the r*pe charges concern another individual. The case first surfaced back in February 2022, and as confirmed by his legal team, Partey has cooperated fully with both the police and the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) since then.

Partey’s lawyer, Jenny Wiltshire, responded to the news by stating that her client denies all allegations and is determined to use the legal process as an opportunity to clear his name.

The Ghanaian international is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 5.

Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, who is leading the investigation, said:

“Our priority remains providing support to the women who have come forward.
We would ask anyone who has been impacted by this case, or anyone who has information, to speak with our team.
You can contact detectives about this investigation by emailing [email protected].”

What Does This Mean for Thomas Partey’s Career?

At 32 years old, Thomas Partey was expected to make a fresh start after his Arsenal exit. But these criminal charges could put his entire football future on pause—or potentially end it altogether, depending on the outcome.

While no official word has come from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) or Partey’s former club Arsenal, it’s expected that this case will cast a shadow over his chances of signing with a new club, especially with the court hearing now public.

Partey, who played 35 matches and scored four goals for Arsenal last season, was a key part of Ghana’s national team setup. However, with legal proceedings underway, his availability and reputation for both club and country are now in serious doubt.

This is a developing story, and Softfootball will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more details emerge.
