Liverpool finally found some breathing room on Sunday afternoon, defeating West Ham United 2–0 at Anfield to put an end to their troubling run of performances in recent weeks. And at the center of that much-needed turnaround was Alexander Isak, the club’s headline summer signing, who opened his Premier League goalscoring account at last, Softfootball reports.
For Isak, the goal carried extra weight. The forward arrived from Newcastle United in a Premier League-record transfer deal, but has struggled with match fitness and consistency since joining Arne Slot’s side.

According to a statement shared via Liverpool’s official X handle, the Sweden international struck just after the hour mark, finishing sharply from a Cody Gakpo cutback to give the Reds control of the match. Gakpo later rounded off the result deep into stoppage time to secure the champions’ first league win in weeks. Speaking to media after the game, he admitted he’d been waiting a long time for a moment like this, he said;
I’m aware that it’s been a long time coming,
I’ve been trying to get back to my best form and I’m still on the way. But I’m happy to have that goal.
He acknowledged the mixed emotions that come with finally finding the net after a difficult spell but made it clear that team success mattered most, he stated;
It’s a mix of feelings, of course. The most important and best feeling today is that we won the game… that’s helpful for the individual as well. But, of course I’m a striker, so scoring goals will always help me.

Liverpool will hope this result sparks a broader revival. The schedule, however, offers little time to settle, two more Premier League fixtures arrive in quick succession, first hosting Sunderland on Wednesday before traveling to Leeds United on Saturday.
Isak understands the importance of staying grounded despite the positive step. he noted;
I think we have to use this win in a good way, But also be humble, because we’ve had a tough time. One win doesn’t necessarily mean that we’re back — we have to stay focused and keep working hard to keep this momentum.
Sunday’s victory may not erase the frustrations of recent weeks, but it gives Liverpool and Isak the platform they have been desperately searching for.
