It caps off an outstanding campaign for Onuachu, who scored 22 league goals and registered two assists, finishing as the Süper Lig’s joint top scorer alongside Eldor Shomurodov of İstanbul Başakşehir.

The recognition comes during a positive period for Nigerian football. The Nigeria national football team were recently crowned 2026 Unity Cup champions after a commanding 3-0 victory over Jamaica national football team at The Valley Stadium in London on May 30, 2026. Goals from Alhassan Yusuf and his late brace helped seal another trophy for the Super Eagles under Eric Chelle.

Meanwhile, Victor Osimhen has also responded to comments made by Chelle regarding his absence from Nigeria’s upcoming international friendlies against Poland and Portugal. The striker addressed the situation after the coach confirmed that both Osimhen and Ademola Lookman would not be available for the matches.

With Onuachu claiming a major individual honour and the Super Eagles adding another trophy to their collection, Nigerian football continues to enjoy a memorable 2026.
