South Africa were held to a 1–1 draw against Congo in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Group Stage clash at Stade Alphonse Massamba Débat in Brazzaville, Softfootball reports.
In their previous encounter, South Africa crushed Congo 5–0, where the home side raced into an early lead with Teboho Mokoena scoring twice in the 12th and 27th minutes.
The visitors took the lead in the 33rd minute through Elias Mokwana, giving South Africa early control of the match. However, Congo responded just before halftime, with Mons Bassouamina scoring in stoppage time (45’+3′) to level the score.

Both sides had opportunities to take the lead in the second half, but solid defending and key substitutions ensured that the match ended in a stalemate. South Africa received a yellow card for Nyiko Mobbie in the 80th minute, while Congo’s Harvy Ossété (57′) and Gaïus Makouta (54′) were also booked during the game.
The draw keeps South Africa at the top of Group Stage standings with 8 points from three matches, while Congo moves up slightly to 4 points, keeping the race for qualification competitive.
South Africa will look to return to winning ways in their next qualifying fixture, while Congo aims to capitalize on home advantage in upcoming matches.
