Softfootball understands that Atlético Madrid were held to a 1-1 draw against Galatasaray in a tense UEFA Champions League clash at Rams Park, extending their unbeaten away streak to six games across all competitions, their longest since January 2025.

After the game, Atlético Madrid shared a post about the result via their official X account.

The Spaniards started the game brightly, following their 1-0 victory against Deportivo Alaves and a 2-1 victory against Valencia, taking an early lead in the fourth minute through Giuliano Simeone, who powered home a downward header from Matteo Ruggeri’s teasing cross.

Galatasaray looked rattled, but with Victor Osimhen lurking as a constant threat, Atlético’s goalkeeper Jan Oblak nearly saw his 100th UCL appearance turn into a nightmare, fumbling a cross just six minutes after the opener.

Galatasaray’s equaliser came in the 20th minute, courtesy of an unfortunate Marcos Llorente error. The Spaniard turned Roland Sallai’s hopeful cross into his own net, levelling the scores. From then on, the game settled into long spells of possession but few real chances.

Shots were largely off-target or blocked, while the physical nature of the contest and a congested midfield kept the scoreline locked until halftime.

The second half offered little more excitement. Only three efforts on target had been registered by the hour mark. Leroy Sané’s penalty appeal went unheeded, while Alexander Sørloth volleyed over for the hosts. Galatasaray failed to register a shot in the first 30 minutes after the restart, and Atlético’s final balls rarely threatened.

It wasn’t until the final five minutes that Ugurcan Çakir produced a remarkable save to deny Antoine Griezmann’s free kick, preserving the 1-1 draw. Atlético now cling to an automatic qualification spot heading into the last UCL group stage matchday, while Galatasaray could still secure a top-24 finish later tonight without even playing.

In the end, a point apiece was a fair reflection. Both teams showed flashes of quality, but neither could fully impose themselves. For Atlético, the result is a reminder that even unbeaten streaks can hang by the thinnest of threads.
