Super Eagles of Nigeria remain with a slim chance of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a 2-1 away win over the Crocodiles of Lesotho at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in the South African city of Polokwane on Friday evening.

Victor Osimhen who missed the 1-1 draw against South Africa due to injury started upfront with Wolves new striker Tolu Arokodare while Adams Akor and Samuel Chukwueze started from the bench.
Current African footballer of the year, Ademola Lookman did not have the best of games and saw a yellow card in the game before he was substituted. Fulham’s Alex Iwobi also struggled to have his stamp in midfield as Nigeria battled to a goalless first half.

However, the second half started brightly as the Eagles won a penalty and Captain Williams Troost-Ekong stepped up to finish with aplomb from 12 yards. The Eagles controlled the game from then on and Sevilla striker Adams Akor who scored and assisted against Barcelona just before the international break added another goal as Nigeria led 2-0.
The Crocodiles pulled one back to make it 2-1 but it was too late and the goal was only a consolation as Nigeria ran out 2-1 winners. Nigeria remain third in Group C with 14 points, South Africa are second with 15 points while Benin Republic are unexpectedly top of the group with only one game left to play.
