Sevilla FC secured their spot in the round of 32 of the King’s Cup after a tough but deserved 2–1 win over CD Extremadura, in a match that honestly swung more than most fans probably expected.
Softfootball expected the match to be an even contest in the pre-match report as the underdogs chased an upset, and the encounter did not disappoint. This is Sevilla’s third victory in 8 games after that famous 4-1 victory against Barcelona.

Sevilla posted via their official X account celebrating the victory, as it was an unexpectedly tense encounter.

Extremadura started brightly, almost punishing a sloppy early mistake from Joan Jordán, though the effort slipped wide. Sevilla answered quickly, Alfon tested the home goalkeeper, but his shot was dealt with easily enough. The first minutes were a bit chaotic, with both sides pressing high and trying to force errors in advanced areas.
After settling down, Almeyda’s team began keeping more of the ball, looking for spaces behind the Extremadura defence. The first proper opening for Sevilla came around the 20th minute with a firm strike from Nemanja Gudelj from outside the box.
Even while sitting deeper, Extremadura threatened on the counter. Sevilla nearly broke the deadlock when Oso took a quick throw-in to Agoumé, who whipped in a cross, but Isaac Romero couldn’t convert thanks to Cala’s crucial block.
In the 28th minute, Extremadura had their first real shot on target after another shaky moment from Jordán, but Luis Nicolás was denied by Nyland.

Sevilla finally took the lead half an hour in, Alfon González finishing with a bit of suspense before the goal was confirmed. Sadly, the celebration was cut short as Juanlu had to limp off, bringing Carmona into the game earlier than planned.
Seven minutes later, Sevilla doubled the lead. Oso caused more trouble on the left, Agoumé squared the ball, and Isaac Romero knocked it home. Extremadura almost replied before halftime through Juanmi Callejón, but his attempt flew wide.
The hosts came out stronger in the second half and quickly reduced the deficit when Zarfino headed in a cross from Marco Manchón. Sevilla wobbled for a while, surviving more scares—including a big one-v-one that Nyland saved—before gradually regaining control as Extremadura tired.
Despite a late push from the home side, Sevilla held firm, closing out a gritty win and booking their place in the next round.
