AS Roma have confirmed the return of Claudio Ranieri as the club’s new head coach, with the veteran Italian signing on until the end of the current season.
Softfootball understands that Ranieri replaces Ivan Juric, who was dismissed on Sunday following a disappointing run of results.
The appointment marks Ranieri’s third spell in charge of the Giallorossi, having previously managed the club between 2009 and 2011 before returning briefly in 2019.
A lifelong Roman and former Roma player, Ranieri made his senior debut for the club in 1973, making his latest return another emotional homecoming.
In a statement announcing the appointment, Roma revealed that once the season concludes, Ranieri will move into a senior advisory role, serving as a consultant to the club’s ownership on all sporting matters.
The club also confirmed that while the search for a long-term manager will continue over the coming months, Ranieri will play an important role in selecting his eventual successor.
Roma praised the 72-year-old’s vast managerial experience, highlighting his successful spells across Serie A, the Premier League, La Liga and Ligue 1, as well as his historic Premier League title triumph with Leicester City in 2016.
The club described Ranieri as a symbol of Roma’s identity and expressed confidence that his experience and leadership will provide a significant boost both on and off the pitch as the team looks to revive its season.
