Softfootball understands that AS Roma have opened formal negotiations with Wolverhampton Wanderers over a potential move for Norwegian left-back David Moller Wølfe, as the Serie A side push to strengthen their defensive options before the January window shuts.

Talks were confirmed to be ongoing by sport expert Fabrizio Romano via his official X account.

AS Roma make first proposal to Wolves for David Moller Wølfe as new left back. Negotiations opened between clubs on permanent deal move.

Roma are keen to reinforce the left side of their defence. Direct contact has already been established between Roma and Wolves, with discussions centred around a permanent transfer rather than a loan.

Wolves, who recently lost 2-0 to Manchester City, signed Moller Wølfe from AZ Alkmaar in August 2025 for around €11.5 million , handing him a five-year contract as a long-term successor to Rayan Aït-Nouri.

Selling him less than six months later would be unexpected, but his limited game time under new manager Rob Edwards, just one start since December, may play a role in the club’s thinking.

Beşiktaş has also made contact, potentially giving Wolves leverage if bidding escalates. Now 23, Wølfe has made 16 appearances this season, scoring twice and providing three assists.

With the January window entering its final stretch, Roma, who recently defeated Como 1-0 in Serie A, has a clear intent. The Serie A club are expected to move from discussions to a formal bid soon, once the financial framework is fully agreed.

Wolves, meanwhile, face a delicate decision, balancing immediate financial flexibility against long-term squad planning during a difficult Premier League campaign.

With Beşiktaş also circling and Roma increasing the pressure, the next few days could prove decisive in shaping David Moller Wølfe’s future and possibly Roma’s left side for the rest of the season.
