Robertson eyes Atletico switch as Liverpool plan future

Andy Robertson

Liverpool’s defensive stalwart Andy Robertson could be heading for a new chapter, with Atletico Madrid emerging as serious contenders for his signature. The La Liga side is reportedly prioritizing the Scotland international as they look to bolster their left flank ahead of the new season.

Having entered the final year of his contract, Robertson’s future at Anfield remains uncertain. The club has already moved to secure a long-term solution, targeting Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez as a likely replacement. Though still consistent last season, the 31-year-old’s attacking output dipped under Arne Slot, managing just two assists in 45 appearances.

Robertson, who has been a key figure at Liverpool since his £8.5m move from Hull City in 2017, has won every major trophy, including two Premier League titles and the Champions League. Yet with the squad undergoing changes—highlighted by Florian Wirtz’s arrival on a €20 million-a-year salary—Liverpool appear ready to evolve.

Talks between Atletico and Robertson are said to be progressing, with the club seeking to fill gaps left by outgoing players like Reinildo and Azpilicueta. Diego Simeone, who has recently brought in Premier League talent such as Conor Gallagher and Julian Alvarez, sees Robertson as a natural fit for his setup.

If the move materializes, Robertson could soon find himself on the opposite side of a fierce rivalry, facing off against his former teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold, who now wears the white of Real Madrid.
