Real Madrid Star Mbappé Speaks Out in Support of Vinicius Jr

3 Min Read

Softfootball understands that Kylian Mbappé has stepped forward as more than just Real Madrid’s leading man on the pitch. The French superstar has publicly defended teammate Vinicius Jr following reports that the Brazilian winger was booed by sections of the Santiago Bernabéu crowd during a recent Real Madrid 2-0 victory against Levante.

While the result went Madrid’s way, the reaction aimed at Vinicius Jr did not sit right with Mbappé. Speaking during a press conference, as reported by Fabrizio Romano via his official X account, the forward made his feelings clear.

He said:

Kylian Mbappé: It’s NOT Vini Jr fault. He’s a fantastic player. He’s an incredible guy, I’m lucky to know him and I’m very fond of him. We have to protect him better. So he’s not alone against everyone. He’s not alone at Real Madrid. We’re all with him.

Those words landed hard, partly because of who they came from. Mbappé is currently enjoying a sensational season in Madrid colours. He has scored 19 goals in 19 LaLiga matches, added 9 goals in just 5 Champions League appearances, and chipped in with 2 more in the Copa del Rey. Numbers like that give his voice authority, whether people like it or not.

Instead of focusing on himself, Mbappé chose unity. It feels deliberate, almost calculated, but also very human. Real Madrid is a club where pressure never sleeps, and Vinicius Jr, whom the Real Madrid manager has also called on fans to show support and trust, has often carried more than his fair share of it.

Mbappé’s intervention could prove vital, reminding fans that success is collective, not individual. As the season rolls on and silverware remains firmly in sight, this moment may be remembered not for the boos, but for the response. Sometimes, leadership shows up in goals. Other times, it shows up in protection.
