Real Madrid is the biggest club in the world and they have stayed on top for many years especially with 15 UEFA Champions League wins and their huge financial wallet.
The Los Blancos are never afraid to make bold decisions as shown when they let huge names like Carlo Ancelotti, Cristiano Ronaldo, Jose Mourinho and Raul Gonzalez leave the club despite being key figures.
Softfootball takes a look into their latest decision to hand Mbappe the special number 10 jersey at the Bernabeu, at a time when the future of Vinicius Junior is under scrutiny. As the Brazilian is yet to agree a new contract and maybe sold if both parties are not happy with what’s on offer.

Kylian Mbappe joined Real Madrid on a free transfer last summer from Paris Saint-Germain and enjoyed a very successful goalscoring season, scoring 31 goals in LaLiga to finish as the competition’s top scorer.
Transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, confirmed the development on his official X account. In his post, he wrote:
“Kylian Mbappé will be Real Madrid’s new 𝐧𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟏𝟎 from season!
“Decision made after Luka Modrić left the club.”
Los Blancos are determined to help Mbappe become the face of the club and a strong presence in the figure in the dressing but while Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso values Mbappé, he’s not necessarily seen as the most important figure.
Alonso is actively working to reduce the team’s over-reliance on Mbappé for goals and is emphasizing a more balanced and collective approach to the game. He wants to distribute goal-scoring responsibilities more evenly across the squad.
Alonso also expects Mbappé to improve his defensive work rate and contribute to the team’s overall pressing strategy.Mbappe
According to ESPN, Real Madrid plan to give Mbappe the number 10 jersey last season but Luka Modric stayed and signed a new one year contract. The stopped the plan as a mark of respect for the veteran midfielder.
Now, Modric has left the club for AC Milan and the jersey is free. The Los Blancos did not even have to ask before making the prolific Mbappe their new number 10.
The 26-year-old is tipped to win the Ballon D’Or within three season and President Florentino Perez believes so much in the Frenchman that he is open to selling Vinicius to the highest bidder.
