Real Madrid manager, Xabi Alonso believes his team are still in the title race despite being four points behind bitter rivals Barcelona after Match-Day 15, Softfootball reports.

The Los Blancos lost 2-0 to Celta Vigo on Sunday night courtesy a brace from Williot Swedberg which secured their first win in 19 years at the Bernabeu. Real Madrid players lost their discipline in that game with Fran Garcia and Alvaro Carreras getting red cards in a disgraceful show of poor attitude towards the referee.

In Xabi Alonso’s interview after the encounter which was shared by football expert, Fabrizio Romano via his official X handle, believes that the title race is definitely on. He said:

I definitely do feel strong enough to turn this situation around. This team wants to compete, we’re on the right track. La Liga is still very long. We can turn this around.

Real Madrid have struggled with form and injuries in recent weeks. Alonso confirmed Trent Alexander-Arnold’s injury after the victory over Athletic Bilbao and losing two more defenders in Fran Garcia and Alvaro Carreras will be a huge worry for the Los Blancos going into their next LaLiga match against Alaves away from home.

However, Real Madrid will be back in action in the UEFA Champions League where they are currently the most successful team in the competition’s history. The Los Blancos host Manchester City on Wednesday in the Match-Day 6.

Real Madrid are currently placed fifth with 12 points on the UCL table while premier league giants, Manchester City are ninth with 10 points after their last defeat at home to Bayer Leverkusen.
