Paris Saint-Germain suffered a disappointing 3–1 home defeat to AS Monaco in a Matchday 25 fixture of Ligue 1, raising questions about the team’s readiness ahead of a major European clash.

The result has caught the attention of many Chelsea supporters, who will see PSG as their next opponents in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at 20:00 British time.
PSG began the match competitively and created several chances early on. However, despite their attacking attempts, they fell behind and later conceded a second goal to trail 2–0.

Bradley Barcola briefly revived hope for the home side when he scored in the 71st minute to reduce the deficit to 2–1. At that moment, Softfootball analysts believed PSG had the momentum to push for an equaliser.

But just two minutes later, Folarin Balogun struck in the 73rd minute to restore Monaco’s two-goal advantage, effectively sealing PSG’s defeat.
Several PSG players struggled to make their usual impact. Midfielder Vitinha was not at his usual level, while Achraf Hakimi also found it difficult to influence the game from his flank.

Interestingly, Ousmane Dembélé, the 2025 Ballon d’Or winner started the match on the bench, possibly with the upcoming Champions League match in mind. He was introduced in the 60th minute, replacing Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, but was unable to significantly change the course of the game.
Other key players such as Nuno Mendes and Kvaratskhelia delivered average performances, with the overall intensity of the team appearing below expectations.
If PSG continue to show this level of performance, many observers believe they could face serious difficulties against Chelsea. The London club previously demonstrated their ability to dominate the French side, notably when Cole Palmer starred as Chelsea defeated PSG 3–0 to win the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
With the Champions League encounter approaching, PSG will need a significant improvement in energy and performance if they hope to challenge Chelsea in one of the competition’s most anticipated fixtures.
