Graham Potter’s first game as West Ham United manager ended in disappointment after Aston Villa came from behind to claim a 2 – 1 victory in their FA Cup third-round clash.
Lucas Paqueta gave the Hammers the perfect start with a ninth-minute goal as the hosts dominated much of the opening half.
Villa improved after the break and turned the match around in the closing stages.
Amadou Onana equalised from a corner that was controversially awarded before Morgan Rogers finished from close range to seal the comeback.
Softfootball reports that Villa completed the comeback within a five-minute spell to knock West Ham out of the competition.
Despite the defeat, Potter will take positives from his side’s first-half display after returning to management following a 21-month absence.
However, the former Chelsea boss will now shift his focus to improving West Ham’s league form as he begins a new chapter at the London club.
