Paul Pogba is poised to make a poignant return to competitive football after reportedly signing a contract with Ligue 1 side AS Monaco. The 32-year-old has completed a medical and agreed a two-year deal, with official confirmation expected imminently, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The former Manchester United and Juventus midfielder’s career was abruptly halted in 2023 due to a doping ban, which was initially set at four years. Following a successful appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, the suspension was reduced to 18 months, allowing Pogba to resume training in January and become eligible for match action in March.

Despite offers from Saudi Arabia, MLS, and even a surprising link to Manchester City, Pogba has opted to return to his homeland—16 years after leaving Le Havre’s academy for Manchester United at the age of 16. Now, he is set to make his long-awaited Ligue 1 debut with Monaco, the club that beat out other suitors for his signature.
His first league appearance is shaping up to be an emotional one: Monaco will open their 2025–26 Ligue 1 campaign against Le Havre—Pogba’s boyhood club.
Pogba, a 2018 World Cup winner, brings a decorated résumé, including 14 major trophies and standout performances for France and his clubs. Monaco are also reportedly finalizing a loan deal for Barcelona’s Ansu Fati, signaling a major statement of intent as they prepare for their Champions League campaign after finishing third last season.
Pogba’s arrival marks a fresh start in a familiar land—and perhaps a final chapter filled with redemption, leadership, and unfinished business in French football.
