Nicolas Jackson will serve another suspension following his straight red card during Chelsea’s 3-1 defeat to Flamengo at the Club World Cup. The Senegalese forward was sent off just four minutes after coming on as a substitute in Friday’s Group D match. His dismissal came moments after Chelsea lost their lead and fell behind.
Jackson’s rash challenge on Flamengo defender Ayrton Lucas earned him a straight red and left his team in a desperate spot as they chased an equaliser. This marks Jackson’s second red card in just over a month. In May, he was dismissed against Newcastle United in the Premier League after elbowing Sven Botman.
That earlier red saw him banned for three domestic matches, missing crucial games against Manchester United, Nottingham Forest, and the opening fixture of the 2025-26 season. Now, he faces another enforced absence on the international stage.

According to FIFA’s Club World Cup rules, a red card results in an automatic one-match suspension. Additional punishment may follow if the offence is deemed serious. Boca Juniors players Ander Herrera and Nicolas Figal were recently given four-match bans at the same tournament for their respective offences.
Given the nature of Jackson’s foul – a high-footed challenge – further scrutiny from FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee is possible. Chelsea will definitely be without him for their final Group D match against ES Tunis, set for the early hours of Wednesday morning.
