Newcastle plots fresh move for Brentford’s Wissa as the forward eyes Champions League

Newcastle United are preparing to return to the table for Yoane Wissa, with a new bid set to be submitted in the coming days, Softfootball understands.

The Magpies have identified the Brentford forward as a priority attacking option as they look to bolster their squad ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, one that includes Champions League football after a strong finish last season.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle are “prepared to approach Brentford again” after talks stalled earlier in the window. Wissa is keen on the Newcastle project and excited by the chance to play on the European stage under Eddie Howe.

On his X handle, the transfer journalist wrote that:

“Newcastle are prepared to approach Brentford again for Yoane Wissa with new bid set to be submitted.

Wissa is keen on #NUFC project and Champions League chance.

“Negotiations are set to continue.

The 27-year-old enjoyed a solid campaign with Brentford last season, stepping up in the absence of Ivan Toney. He registered 12 goals and five assists across all competitions, showcasing his ability to play across the front line,Newcastle a quality that fits Howe’s flexible attacking blueprint.

Sources close to the deal suggest that personal terms with Wissa will not be an issue, with negotiations now focused on reaching an agreement with Brentford. The Bees are open to a sale but will demand a fair valuation for a player entering his prime and still under contract.

Wissa, who joined Brentford in 2021, has steadily grown into one of the club’s most important players. His direct style, pressing work rate, and eye for goal make him a natural fit for Newcastle’s high-intensity system.

The Magpies had earlier brought a deal, but Wissa is set to be worth  around £40 million by Brentford, who are hesitant from Newcastle.

With the club’s transfer plans accelerating, negotiations are set to continue this week. Wissa appears ready for the next step, and Newcastle are positioning themselves to deliver it.

Wissa is likely to become the next big transfer from the London club this summer transfer after Bryan Mbeumo made a move to Manchester United.
