Newcastle lead Trafford chase Ramsdale linked to Gala

Aaron Ramsdale could soon be swapping the Premier League for Turkey, with Galatasaray reportedly making a move to sign the Southampton goalkeeper. Despite only joining the Saints permanently from Arsenal last summer, Ramsdale endured a rough campaign, conceding 66 goals in 30 appearances as Southampton finished bottom of the league.

Galatasaray, in search of a new first-choice keeper following Fernando Muslera’s departure, see Ramsdale as a prime target. The Turkish giants can offer him regular playing time and Champions League football, a major incentive ahead of next year’s World Cup. His contract with Southampton runs until 2028, but it includes a £20 million release clause triggered by relegation.

Meanwhile, in a separate goalkeeping shakeup, Newcastle United are closing in on Burnley’s standout shot-stopper James Trafford. The 22-year-old played a crucial role in Burnley’s dominant Championship campaign, racking up 29 clean sheets in 45 matches on their way to a 100-point season.

Trafford’s move is reportedly being timed for July to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules, allowing the deal to fall under the new financial year. Talks between Newcastle and Burnley are already in motion and expected to pick up pace soon. Burnley are said to value Trafford at around £30 million, and his arrival could cast doubt over Nick Pope’s future at St James’ Park.

In another major development, Theo Hernandez is set to become the latest high-profile European player to join the Saudi Pro League. The AC Milan left-back has agreed personal terms with Al-Hilal following a direct approach from the club’s president. With Hernandez now on board, Milan and Al-Hilal are negotiating a deal worth €25 million plus bonuses.

The French defender had earlier turned down a new contract offer from Milan, but progress in negotiations has now placed Al-Hilal in a strong position to finalize the transfer. Barring any last-minute surprises, Hernandez will depart the San Siro after 262 appearances and major domestic silverware, including a Serie A title and the Italian Super Cup.

As the summer window unfolds, these moves could reshape goalkeeping and defensive lines across multiple leagues and continents.
