Newcastle chase Bakayoko as Man City reject Doyle bid

Manchester City have rejected a £6.5 million offer from Hoffenheim for 21-year-old defender Callum Doyle. The young Englishman, who has enjoyed loan spells at Sunderland, Coventry, Leicester, and most recently Norwich City, impressed last season with 40 Championship appearances, scoring once and providing seven assists.

Despite his development and consistent performances, Doyle appears unlikely to break into Pep Guardiola’s senior squad. With two years left on his contract, City are open to letting him go, though they’ve yet to disclose an official valuation. Hoffenheim are just one of several clubs showing interest — with Serie A’s Udinese also monitoring his situation closely.

Newcastle’s Attacking Wishlist Grows

Meanwhile, Newcastle United have compiled a shortlist of attacking reinforcements, following a failed £45 million bid for Nottingham Forest’s Anthony Elanga. With Forest demanding at least £60 million, the Magpies are exploring alternatives.

Top of the list is Johan Bakayoko from PSV Eindhoven. The 22-year-old Belgian winger had an outstanding season, registering 12 goals across 46 games, and is entering the final year of his contract — making him a potential bargain.

Other options include:

  • Karim Adeyemi (Borussia Dortmund): The 23-year-old German scored 12 goals and made 9 assists last season, though Dortmund are reluctant to sell.
  • Mohamed Kudus (West Ham): After a rocky 2024–25 campaign, the Ghanaian could be on his way out.
  • Malick Fofana (Lyon): Linked to Chelsea and Liverpool, the promising youngster is expected to depart after Lyon’s financial meltdown and relegation to Ligue 2.

Burnley Sign Hartman from Feyenoord

Elsewhere, newly-promoted Burnley have confirmed the signing of Netherlands international Quilindschy Hartman from Feyenoord. The 23-year-old left-back joins on a four-year deal, ending his 15-year association with the Dutch club.

Hartman, who made his senior debut in 2022, featured in 83 games for Feyenoord but had a stop-start 2024–25 campaign due to injuries. Speaking after the move, he praised the Burnley coach’s influence and expressed excitement for the new challenge.

This marks Burnley’s second signing this week, following the arrival of goalkeeper Max Weiss from Karlsruher in a £4.3 million deal.
