Nathan Tella praises Frimpong after Liverpool transfer

Nathan Tella has expressed admiration for former teammate Jeremie Frimpong following the Dutch defender’s high-profile transfer to Liverpool. The duo spent two successful seasons together at Bayer Leverkusen, where they lifted the Bundesliga, DFB Pokal, and the German Super Cup before recent squad changes ushered in a new era at the club.

Frimpong sealed his move to the Premier League champions after Liverpool triggered his €35 million release clause. He isn’t the only Leverkusen player joining the Reds this summer, as midfield maestro Florian Wirtz also makes the switch to Anfield.

Speaking about Frimpong’s transfer, Tella praised the defender’s development and consistency. According to the Nigerian winger, it was only natural that a club of Liverpool’s stature would seek out a player who had consistently delivered at both domestic and European levels.

The Super Eagles winger highlighted that Frimpong’s talents have always gone beyond German football. Having featured for the Netherlands and impressed in the Champions League, the pacey wing-back has long been destined for a bigger stage.

Tella, formerly of Southampton, believes Frimpong will thrive at Liverpool without surprising anyone. His ability, according to Tella, has always placed him a cut above, and the move is a testament to his work ethic and contribution to Leverkusen’s recent golden run.

With Bayer Leverkusen now undergoing a transformation—Xabi Alonso has left for Real Madrid, and Erik Ten Hag has stepped in as the new boss—Tella is optimistic about what lies ahead. The Nigerian star is eager to work under the former Manchester United manager as the club looks to build on the foundations of last season’s success, despite the departure of key figures.

From Bundesliga glory to new beginnings, both Frimpong and Tella are entering pivotal stages of their careers—one at Anfield, the other preparing for a new challenge at the BayArena.
