Scott McTominay’s move to Napoli has proven to be one of the standout transfers of the past year, and the Serie A champions have made it clear they have no intention of parting ways with their midfield talisman. After joining from Manchester United for £25.7 million in August 2024, McTominay has quickly become a key figure in Naples.
The Scotland international enjoyed a phenomenal debut campaign, racking up 12 goals and six assists in 34 league appearances to help Napoli secure the Serie A title. His efforts earned him the league’s Most Valuable Player award, and his performances have not gone unnoticed outside of Italy.
Saudi giants Al-Hilal recently made an enquiry into McTominay’s availability, but Napoli immediately shut down the approach. According to reports in Italy, the club’s stance is firm—no deal will be considered, regardless of the price offered.

The midfielder himself is reportedly settled and happy at the club and has no plans to entertain a move this summer. With a contract running until June 2028, McTominay is seen as a pillar in Antonio Conte’s midfield rebuild.
Liverpool and Scotland full-back Andy Robertson recently weighed in on the matter, claiming Manchester United underestimated the 28-year-old’s quality. “He probably didn’t get the respect he deserves,” Robertson said. “What he’s done at Napoli is unbelievable.”
Conte, too, expressed disbelief that the signing even materialised. Speaking to Sky Sports Italy, the Napoli boss revealed that he had always admired McTominay’s impact at United, despite his limited starting opportunities. He credited Napoli’s director, Giovanni Manna, with identifying the opportunity and making it happen—even if Conte himself wasn’t initially convinced it would be possible.
As Napoli gear up to defend their title next season, McTominay remains a central figure in Conte’s plans. His decision to swap Manchester for Naples continues to pay off handsomely—for player and club alike.
