Napoli are considering another move for a Manchester United player, this time targeting defender Lisandro Martinez. The Argentine has impressed when fit, but recurring injuries have limited his impact at Old Trafford in recent seasons.
The Serie A side had success last year when they brought in Scott McTominay from United for £25million. His arrival proved pivotal, with the midfielder becoming a fan favorite and contributing heavily to Napoli’s league triumph.
Reports from Italy, including Corriere dello Sport and La Repubblica, suggest Napoli are now monitoring Martinez closely. Although he has been sidelined with a cruciate ligament injury since February and lacks a confirmed return date, Napoli are reportedly confident in his long-term recovery.
Martinez, who arrived from Ajax for £50million in 2022, quickly established himself as a key figure in United’s defense. Despite injuries, he remained a regular starter under manager Ruben Amorim whenever available.
The move would reunite him with McTominay, and though United haven’t signaled a willingness to sell, it’s understood that most players in the squad could be available at the right price this summer.
Napoli’s interest in Manchester United talent doesn’t stop with Martinez. They previously tried to bring in Alejandro Garnacho during the January window, following Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s departure to PSG. However, the £70million price tag was too steep.
Garnacho’s future remains uncertain after expressing frustration over not starting in the Europa League final against Tottenham. While Napoli maintain an interest, the young winger is believed to favor staying in the Premier League, with Chelsea also monitoring the situation.
