Napoli close in on Jadon Sancho as Man United demand fee

Jadon Sancho is edging closer to a move away from Manchester United after reportedly agreeing terms with Serie A champions Napoli. The 25-year-old winger is no longer in United’s plans under Ruben Amorim, and a transfer this summer looks all but inevitable.

Following his season-long loan at Chelsea, the Blues declined to activate their £25 million purchase option. Instead, they paid a £5 million penalty to send Sancho back to Old Trafford, ending any hopes of a permanent stay at Stamford Bridge. Negotiations had reportedly stalled over personal terms.

Napoli are keen to take advantage of the situation, and according to Sky Sport Italy, Sancho has given his verbal approval to join the Italian side. However, Manchester United are demanding a €25 million (£21.3m) transfer fee—an amount Napoli currently consider excessive.

One of the main obstacles is Sancho’s high wages. He still has a year remaining on his contract at United, which pays him £300,000 per week, complicating any potential deal for interested clubs.

Despite United’s willingness to offload the winger, the club is standing firm on the asking price. The Red Devils are under no pressure to lower the fee as Sancho remains under contract, but Napoli are reluctant to meet those financial demands without further negotiation.

Other clubs have also expressed interest in the England international. Tottenham, Aston Villa, and Newcastle United have been loosely linked, but no formal offers have emerged. Meanwhile, a return to Borussia Dortmund—Sancho’s former club—appears unlikely. Sporting director Sebastian Kehl has publicly stated that the club has other priorities at the moment and has downplayed recent media speculation.

Sancho’s future now hinges on whether Napoli can strike a compromise with Manchester United over both the fee and wage structure. For now, the winger waits as discussions continue, with hopes of reigniting his career in Italy.
